Can we stop printing library hours calendars?

Every semester we see reams and reams of paper and a lot of staff time spent in printing and dispensing library semester hours calendars. Why not put this information online? Maybe have larger, poster size calendars mounted on foam board and displayed on easels in each branch as well as outside library doors?

We kill a lot of trees and spend a lot of money on paper to print these out each time.

maybe it is ok but cannot vote "yes"
remember this is our place to consider things that are supposed to be important...
did you talk to the students who may look at the printed forms to find your hours to see what they want?
saving paper is a good thing, but is that job one for you?

Right now I believe the process goes like this:

1. Stephen asks all the branches to submit their hours for a given semester, intersession, etc
2. Various staff review it and sign off
3. TIS formats the hours submitted into the printable version, which is also posted online (with occasional programming support from Library Systems)
4. Stephen coordinates the printing and dissemination of hours to branches

So it's kind of a convoluted process that wouldn't be any different except for the last step, in which we would save some paper. I agree with whodat: we should talk to users about what they want. There has been talk in the past about better incorporating the hours info into the website, perhaps feeding into the home page...although now may or may not be the right time to take on that project.
