- We need to do something to enhance discovery for our users. Issues and solutions include:
1. Redesign the web site, since this is the main portal to our libraries for most of our users. It should be less compartmentalized. The web site needs oversight and someone who can ensure we don’t duplicate content. (The CMS may help us repurpose content.) Need more than just guidelines – need a group or editor who decides what and how things are included. Need a regular schedule for assessing and updating so it doesn’t get stale or grow without a plan. This means taking some control away from individual web authors.
2. Need an evaluation plan in place for implementing new tools, whether metalib, worldcat local, verde, etc. Decision should be made with representation from all affected areas (user services, research services, DLS, acquisitions, etc.) and be transparent. Once a tool is selected, there should be a schedule/plan of when and how to evaluate its effectiveness and we should be able to stop/drop something if it isn’t working out.
3. When we choose a new tools, we should have a justification statement as to why we need it and what role it will play.
4. Service to users, not personal/vendor relatons, etc. should drive when and how we do these things.

It appears from the LibQual+ rankings that we do not satisfy faculty desires to locate resources through our website, navigation tools. If that is the case under closer study, should be conduct some focus groups with faculty to see how we can reduce their frustrations and make them feel more effective in their teaching and research roles.
