Development

- People in the organization need to know what is happening in development and be part of decision making rather than told after the fact of something Development is doing that directly impacts their work
- Consider creating a staff advisory group to help with decision making and evaluating effectiveness of events/campaigns/initiatives
- Continual cost-benefit analysis for Development would be useful – ie how much do we spend versus how much do we bring in (includes salaries, event costs, travel, etc.)

Thank those of you who shoulder the difficult job of attempting to bring in money from the outside in these times. Most of us know support from the state will plummet during these economic times, and the university endowment has already been severely impacted. You are our hope. And unlike the rest of us, you bring in SOMETHING in exchange for your salary. We know it's hard finding people in these times who can support us or those other units that have trod the philanthropic trails for UT far longer than our libraries. Most of us deeply appreciate what you do. Keep rolling that rock up the hill, the payoff will continue to improve.

Just a comment on the comment, and not on the idea--I suspect 'the rest of us' do consider our WORK to be SOMETHING that we bring in exchange for our salary . . .
