Set goals for employees working over the holidays

If you supervise an employee who would like to work over the holidays, sit down with them ahead of time and discuss what you feel they should be able to accomplish based on the number of hours they plan to work. Obviously, unforseen difficulties...

Supervisor training for all?

Under the new "evaluation procedures," will supervisors of hourly employees, work study students and GRA's also be required to attend supervisor training sessions? If not, why not?
Response from the site administrator
Hopper_Moderator, 08.02.2012
Dear DT:

No, not at this point. For the immediate purposes of the new personnel procedures, supervisors are required to attend training sessions in order to prepare them to use the new evaluation process, which only pertains to budgeted staff. Moving forward, however, there will be opportunities to expand the pool of supervisors attending the training workshops if that is deemed useful.

Submitting questions online to be discussed at the coffees?

Wasn't the Administration going to develop a way for staff to submit questions for the coffees anonymously online? Filling out cards at the coffees or handing in a card with a question in the Library office are hardly anonymous. As for...

Dear DT:

Thanks for checking back. We have asked the Communications Working Group to evaluate the efficacy of Idea Hopper and will ask them to include this objective in their review. In the meantime, we will begin bringing to the VP Coffees any questions posed to Idea Hopper that seem to merit broader discussion at a staff meeting.

Best,
Doug

Can we "power down" more often to save energy?

We leave our computers/printers/scanners/etc. on 24/7, except during the winter break. Even though they are in sleep mode, they are still draining energy all that time. The University of Pennsylvania recently did an experiment during which they...

stop routinely printing Millennium records.

We have many long-standing work flows that require a print out from Millennium, our integrated library system. Every staff member either has/could easily obtain a Millenniun login. It would be far more economical, as well as environmentally...
